All of your movie and song references are perfect. They were all my childhood favorites. I had the Jungle Book with my name in it as a kid; a personalized version that my grandma had bought for me as a birthday gift one year; it was one of the coolest things back then. I watched the movie dozens of times when I was little and wanted to run off and live with the animals in the lush jungle like Mowgli. Who knew I'd be reading stories about Willie Wonka, Little Orphan Annie, the Jungle Book, and all your other familiar quotes?

Interesting packing list; I never would've imagined an isle of machetes. Another reminder about how unique every place is, and how well humans figure out the best way to adapt.

Aahhhh Whatsapp. Nice one. When I first started traveling it didn't exist. After my first $600+ phone bill I bought a local phone and chip lol. Talk about learning the hard way 🤣

Yes!!! OH and I thought you could appreciate this video…it’s of a hired gardener at a villa I was reviewing many years ago. His SOLE gardening tool was a machete and the yard looked gorgeous 😂

Re jungle living—flash light and machete. Eventually after a few hurricanes we got a generator. Machetes are like the Swiss army knife of the jungle! Our wood guy used it to open his beer bottles with one. Gotta love it!

Another fun and insightful read, Marlo! I literally live in my plastic Berks EVERYDAY. They are totally the jam for island life…better for me than flip flops because the mud splatters all over my legs when I walk on the road in flip flops after or while it’s raining 🤦‍♀️ I know that if I lived more in the bush (that’s what they call the jungle here in Jamaica) I would need those rain boots as well!

I love how you weaved in Baloo and his wisdom with your story…we can find simple and profound wisdom in unusual places if we are open to it. Thanks for sharing your stories and wisdom with the world! Pura Vida 🌈

Thanks Deanna! The birks are the greatest for island, jungle (or bush!) living! And mud....oh I get that-thus the rain boots 😂! Lots of lessons learned from our journey and living abroad-you do have to be open and recognize the gifts presented to us. And your question the other day is my inspiration for my next post-what did I learn and why did we return....stay tuned. Pura Vida!

Thanks for the tips! I have a pair of those plastic Birkenstocks, too, and they are so easy to rinse clean.
