HAAAA! This is all SO accurate!! Sub the word Jamaica for Costa Rica and you've written a lot of the lessons I learned the hard way! I have a future post coming out entirely about cockroaches. Lovely writing material, I know. But damn is it funny...even funnier now that I no longer live there.

Thanks for the smiles today!

Can’t wait for the cockroach story Kristi! We too had lots of unusual and interesting bugs (not a lot of cockroaches) but I’ll agree with you that all is much funnier now that we don’t live there anymore! Pura vida

I’m not sure I could cope with such a high number of bugs!

Love pura vida, definitely going to take that on board!

Oh, the damp paper conundrum. We found the only dehumidifier for sale in Cancun when we opened our bookstore 30 km south many years ago. And it was a godsend! No one could believe the paper was actually crisp—not moist ):— on our books! And re your Costa Rica rains! I thought southern MX was bad until we visited CR. OMG! I wondered at the size of downspouts there, but not for long once the rains began. Gushers!

You betcha! As we always said- it does rain in the rainforest! When we did buy a dehumidifier, they couldn’t keep up or they would malfunction pretty fast!

Oh dear. We were under the gun to keep the store dry, b/c no one (as you know) likes damp paper. Thank goodness our dehumidifier cranked! Also, books if damp create mold and mold travels! Learned that from a sweet woman named Mildred who owned a book and curio shop at Moss Landing, CA, from whom we learned do's and don't's. Also, this is sad, southern Mexico's rainfall has decreased in past few decades and went from tropical to sub-tropical climate due to rainfall levels.
