I remember seeing people driving in their own cars with the windows rolled up in full mask and latex gloves BY CHOICE!! I guess we were all just scared and uncertain.
This does seem odd, in hindsight. And I remember thinking that leaving stuff out before putting it away, and the extreme use of sanitizer, which some people continue to regularly use today, seemed odd. I didn’t do everything that was recommended, but I did some, because I am not a medical professional and have never lived through a pandemic before, so I felt like I had to trust. The extreme use of sanitizer felt like a sales opportunity, not to mention our knowledge of super bug encouragement, so I rarely participated in that nonsense. It was such an unprecedented time and so many people were dying around the world, so it was hard to always decipher what did and didn’t make sense, considering what we knew at the time.
Having to plan your life around what days you’re authorized to drive would not be fun.
Exactly- we only had to trust and also decide for ourselves. Most of us have not lived in a pandemic time before 2020 so yes, we did what we knew at the time. I still think driving restrictions were strange.
We wiped down everything, Marlo. For a long long time. CR's driving rules are like you'd need to know advanced geometry to figure out! OMG! Such a weird time, though it's not like right now is normal . . .
EVERYTHING! Right Jeanine!! The driving still makes me laugh. It was so confusing and changed so often a local paper made an app where you could put in your license number (last digit) and it would tell you if you could drive or not!
Thanks Jackieone! The driving restrictions were a little weird I thought. Hadn’t heard of anywhere else that had those! And yes, masks. Always masking!! (But not much masking in Costa Rica-until later!)
As a long time now retired health care provider, I have practiced through two world health care panics (HIV & COVID) where initially nobody knew what the disease was and how it spread. It's easy now to look back and say we should have known better but if you remember back when no one knew, people were trying their best to mitigate the spread where millions died, including health care providers. What I learned is to proceed carefully with the best information at the time (sometimes changing daily) and to have courage (and encourage your staff) to do your job. Now that there are treatments/vaccines for both seems to make people forget the panic that people felt at the early part of both initial stages. Both were scary times and I am so happy that most of my friends and patients survived. We do the best we can with the best information we have. Many times looking back on it, it looks dumb.
Thanks David. Absolutely right the nobody knew about this disease we were all trying our best and use what information is available to you at the time. If you haven't read my post called The Doctors you might be interested that one of our hotel guests was the doctor to be on the team that found than pronating a Covid patient prevented them from having to be on a vent!
It was crazy that you had to wear a mask into a restaurant but once you sat at the table you could take it off. Like the virus didn’t occur under 4 feet 🤦♀️🤦♀️
I would say one of the craziest things I saw during that time was when we went to get take out from a local Thai restaurant. Just before the handed me the cardboard box of food, they lathered their hands in hand sanitizer and then rubbed the box 😳.
Hahah okay, that was odd 😁 Isn't it weird remembering all the things we didn't understand back then?
My mom and I were each other’s "bubble" so we'd grocery shop together, wearing masks and latex gloves lol. Then I'd wipe ALL my items down with lysol wipes. Then I'd lysol my countertops where the bags rested. It was non-stop cluelessness 😁

I totally saw this, too 😁
We for sure scared and uncertain. Charting unfamiliar territory!

Oh man, that's funny (to me, probably not to you). It was a wild time, Marlo!
HAHAHA HAHAHAHA ‼️😂
Yer killin me!
That’s just TOO MUCH‼️
We didn’t do anything like that, the face masks were the ultimate thing we observed here. Wow!

Right!?!!! 🤦🏻♀️
Wow. Those driving restrictions were crazy.

I also thought the driving restrictions were strange! And there was SOO much sanitizer use then!!
What a crazy time that was and your driving rules are just as crazy! I hope we all don't ever go through all of that again.
I agree Nancy and hope that's a once in our lifetime.

It is weird remembering these things-and strange to think it was only 5 years ago!
In some ways it feels like ONLY 5 years but in other ways it feels like way more than 5 years.
