This is unbelievable, Marlo! Fantastic job by Mark and the ability of your local contractor to comprehend it all. Making them equal in size must have been--tough! Love his ingenuity and can-do attitude, well, for both of you!!
I certainly know about using a water level. We just used one designing the porch we are putting up on the front of our home. There's a bit of a slope too, so my husband used some clear plastic tubing filled with water and we marched around making calculations. Your steps look great, and I'm sure your guests really appreciated them too.
I love the steps! They blend in with the surroundings very nicely. I'm sure your guests appreciated that they were there, even if they never thought about the genius behind them. I now have a new appreciation for steps.
Yes for sure the guests appreciated them as did our maintenance team who had to carry luggage down that path - and you know how much luggage Americans bring on trips! haha. I also have a new appreciate for steps! Thanks!
Wowza! I immediately thought of my son. I vividly remember bringing home one of those tall freestanding fans from Walmart one miserably hot summer afternoon. I had taken it out of the box, and the pieces lie in wait on the living room floor. While I was on the phone with my mom, he assembled it. There were only a few pieces, but he was two years old. I came back into the room and couldn’t believe my eyes. By his freshman year in high school he talked way over my head about complex problems and could build anything; he’s wired to think technically like your husband. He’s 28 now and has designed and built incredible things inside and outside clients homes.
My skills align with yours.
I needed a third option for the poll: all of the above.
I imagine those stairs were greatly appreciated by future guests!
That was so interesting! It would have been fun to watch the process!
Thanks Tracy! Never a dull moment!

Thanks Jeanine! As you know living in a foreign country without some of the 'modern' things, you have to truly be resourceful!
The stairs turned out amazing. A great example of teamwork! Having some chardonnay afterwords (or during) is a nice plan.
Thanks Daniel! The chardonnay was a treat after the day! Ha

Oh my gosh Nancy! No way… we could’ve used you both! 😂 and yep the guests from then on were happy!
A bit Pythagoras, a touch of trig?
You know it SaSa! I knew you'd understand the techno-wizardry! 😂

Amazing isn't it?! How some people just 'have it'! My 28 year old son also thankfully got Mark's genes on that also!
And you're right-should've had a 3rd poll option!! Thanks Joy!
